The Arabic alphabet has 28 letters. This Arabic keyboard places them in the standard layout, the same one printed on Arabic computer keyboards.
So what you learn here also works on a real Arabic keyboard. The chart below shows each letter, how it sounds and which English key types it.

Harakat on the Arabic keyboard
Harakat are small marks above or below a letter. They show short vowels and other sounds.
Everyday Arabic usually leaves them out. You'll see them in the Quran, children's books and Arabic lessons.
The most common marks sit in their own row, right above the letters. Type the letter first, then tap the mark.
Need Shadda with a vowel, like بَّ? Tap the shift key. Those combined marks are there in one tap.

Arabic and English keyboard in one
Lots of people write in both languages. This keyboard in Arabic and English lets you switch with one tap on the globe key.
The space bar always shows which language is active. Arabic text runs right to left, and English words inside it still read left to right.
Arabic numbers
Arabic has its own digits, called Arabic-Indic numerals. Both sets are on the numbers layer, so use whichever you need.

Arabic has its own comma, semicolon and question mark. They're flipped because the text runs right to left.

Tips for typing Arabic correctly
- Letters join on their own. Tap ك, then ت, then ب, and you get كتب. You never pick letter shapes yourself.
- Six letters don't join the next one. ا د ذ ر ز و always leave a small gap after them. That's normal.
- لا is one shape. When ل comes before ا, Arabic writes them as لا. The keyboard handles it for you.
- Don't mix up ه and ة. Ta marbuta (ة) only comes at the end of a word, as in مدرسة (school).
- Use ى at the end of words like على. It looks like ي without the dots.
Example: typing "salam" (سلام)
Tap س, then ل, then ا, then م. The word builds from the right side of the box.

How does voice typing work?
Tap the mic, allow microphone access, and speak. Your words are typed for you. Voice typing works in Chrome, Edge and Safari and needs an internet connection.
Can I add emojis?
Yes. Tap the smiley key, choose a group and tap an emoji. Your recent emojis are saved for next time.
Is this an Arabic transliteration keyboard?
Not quite. A transliteration keyboard turns sounds into letters, so typing "salam" gives سلام. This keyboard uses the standard Arabic layout, so each key always types the same letter. To turn English words into Arabic, use the English to Arabic Translator.

Why does my text start on the right?
Arabic is written right to left. Each new letter appears to the left of the one before.
