About Almarai
Almarai was created by Boutros, the foundry led by Mourad Boutros, and added to Google Fonts in 2019. It comes in four weights: Light, Regular, Bold and ExtraBold. Boutros designed it for readability online and offline. Beneath its geometric surface each letter follows calligraphic structure, with low stroke contrast and wide apertures intended to keep it clear at small sizes, especially on screens.
Named after the Arabic word for "meadow," Almarai was designed by Mourad Boutros specifically for on-screen UI use rather than adapted from print calligraphy — pairs well with Inter or Roboto for bilingual interfaces since both share a similar low-contrast stroke weight.

How Almarai compares
Almarai and Tajawal share a foundry and a low-contrast approach, but Almarai has fewer weights and noticeably open apertures aimed at screens. Against Noto Sans Arabic, which prioritises exhaustive character coverage and also comes in several widths, Almarai is the more characterful, tightly focused choice for Arabic interface text. Choose Almarai when the job is mostly interface text and a small, consistent set of weights is enough.
Tips for using Almarai
Almarai is at its best in interfaces: menus, buttons, form labels and dashboard text at small sizes. With only four weights, build your hierarchy around size rather than many weight steps. ExtraBold works for short headings, but for long display lines a family with more weights, such as Cairo, gives finer control.
