IBM Plex Sans Arabic — Free Arabic Google Font

IBM Plex Sans Arabic extends IBM's Plex type system — designed to feel neutral but not cold — into Arabic script. It shares Plex's grotesque-but-friendly character across its full weight range, and pairs naturally with the Latin Plex Sans, Serif, or Mono when a project needs a consistent voice across scripts.

About IBM Plex Sans Arabic

IBM Plex Sans Arabic belongs to IBM Plex, the corporate type family designed by Mike Abbink at IBM with the Dutch foundry Bold Monday. Khajag Apelian and Wael Morcos are credited on the Arabic alongside them, and it was added to Google Fonts in 2021. Plex was meant to express the relationship between people and machines, giving a neutral but friendly grotesque voice across Sans, Serif and Mono.

Part of IBM's open-source Plex system, this is the Arabic counterpart designed to sit alongside Plex Sans for Latin — the natural pick if a project is already using Plex elsewhere and needs a matching Arabic voice rather than a visually mismatched substitute.

How IBM Plex Sans Arabic compares

Where Noto Sans Arabic is built mainly for coverage, Plex Sans Arabic is built for a consistent brand voice across scripts. Next to Readex Pro, Plex feels tighter and more corporate, while Readex Pro is designed around wider shapes and spacing to reduce visual noise for the reader. Pick Plex when the product already uses IBM Plex in Latin, or when one family must cover Arabic, code samples and documentation consistently.

Tips for using IBM Plex Sans Arabic

Plex Sans Arabic ships seven weights here, Thin to Bold, with no ExtraBold or Black, so headlines top out at Bold. Its natural Latin partners are IBM Plex Sans, Serif or Mono, which share its proportions, a real advantage for technical documentation and products that show code. It suits reports, dashboards and documentation more than expressive display work.
