About Noto Naskh Arabic

Noto Naskh Arabic is the modulated Naskh member of Google's Noto collection, added to Google Fonts in 2020. Google designed it for texts in the Middle Eastern Arabic script and specifically for use alongside serif fonts, so mixed-script pages keep a consistent texture. It has 1,598 glyphs and, on this site, four weights from Regular to Bold.

The Naskh counterpart to Noto Sans Arabic, built for the same cross-script consistency goals — a more neutral, less historically-flavored Naskh option than Amiri, useful when a project needs Naskh's readability without its classical character.

Best used for

  • Body text needing serif pairing
  • Broad Unicode coverage
  • General-purpose Naskh reading

How Noto Naskh Arabic compares

Compared with Amiri, Noto Naskh is plainer and more neutral: less a historical revival, more a dependable workhorse. Against its sister Noto Sans Arabic, it keeps the thick and thin stroke contrast of handwritten Naskh, so it feels more traditional and sits better next to serif rather than sans Latin type. Pick it when an interface or document already uses Noto and you need a matching, conventional Naskh.

Tips for using Noto Naskh Arabic

Use it for long-form reading where the surrounding Latin is a serif face; Noto Serif is the obvious match. Medium and SemiBold give in-between emphasis without jumping to Bold. If your content is in Urdu, switch to Noto Nastaliq Urdu, which follows that language's own calligraphic tradition.
